What’s it all about?

The ABC Combat System was developed by Chris Crudelli as a result of his extensive research for his martial arts encyclopedia, “The Way of the Warrior”.

He uncovered information on a little-known ancient sword fighting system developed by a Japanese master who taught young officers use of the sword based on strokes of the Kanji (Chinese characters which are used in the Japanese writing system). Chris who originally trained as a Chinese linguist recognised what a powerful and effective method of learning like this would be: the often obscure techniques used in martial arts can be tough to recall under pressure  but by creating a link with the subconscious mind with the letters, or characters, from everyday use, the techniques would become almost instinctive.

So Chris developed a whole new system based on the modern English alphabet.

A series of 26 techniques, The System can be applied to knife, stick and empty hand fighting. The letters of the alphabet are something we’re taught from a very young age, their shapes thoroughly ingrained in our subconscious minds; we barely have to think about them in order to recall their strokes. So what better framework on which to build a whole system of self-defence for use in highly pressurised situations.

The Instructor Training Programme is a fast track black belt codified system for experienced martial artists to train up to become  ABC teachers. There is one training session per month and nine stages plus a  pressure test that are required in order to achieve black belt status.  But don’t think it’s an easy course: our potential instructors must do a lot of homework and daily study during their training period if they are to progress to become a fully qualified Black Belt, the 4 day 3 night  highly pressurised Pre-blackbelt course, held yearly in the remote Snowdon mountain range has been called the toughest ‘Black Belt course on the planet’ by many of those who sit it.
Only a handful who apply for it – pass it.

Chris is currently recruiting for more instructors. If you think you have what it takes and you’d like some more information on running an ABC school get in touch.
